Land cut in single strip; Man starts indefinite strike outside DM’s office
BIJNOR: Narendra Singh is in a fix. In the process of ‘chak bandi’ of land holdings, his two bigha land was put together at a different location, but in a straight strip-like land. “How am I supposed to make use of this land? I cannot grow any crop in a straight line,” said 55-year-old Singh as he started an indefinite hunger strike on Monday outside the district magistrate’s office.

“I had two pieces of land in the village, which has been combined into one place, but in a straight line. I cannot plough the field because it is cut into a straight strip. I have filed an application and sent it to the Chakbandi officer but to no avail,” said Singh, who is a resident of Gher Rambagh village in Bijnor.
He adopted asceticism 25 years ago, but his three brothers continued to live in the village. It was very recently that he returned to find that his piece of land has been cut to a straight strip in the village.
“I thought I will construct a house and a temple and will continue my life praying to God; but how can anyone construct a house in a strip? Moreover, I cannot even put the land to use of farming. I will not budge an inch and continue with my indefinite hunger strike until a proper piece of land is given to me,” said Singh.
When TOI contacted sub-divisional magistrate Sehdev Singh, he said, “He approached us on Sunday and we have told the Chakbandi officials to look into the matter. But I am not aware about him sitting on a hunger strike. A quick investigation will be done in the matter.”
